Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know if I need coaching or therapy?
Coaching is different from therapy in that we will target specific concerns and work to find targeted solutions to your problems. It is skills-based and will help you develop the tools you need to achieve your goals. Coaching is typically short-term, focused on the present and future. It’s also beneficial for those who have a solid inner work practice, such as a journaling or meditation practice, and are looking to complement it with one-on-one sessions. If you are interested in longer-term, insight oriented work, therapy may be more aligned with your goals.
If you feel like coaching would be a good fit for you, during our first session we will spend some time exploring if it makes sense for us to work together in that capacity. If I feel like you might need more support, we can explore therapy services and referrals.
Who is coaching not a good fit for?
Coaching is not for those with significant mental health concerns (such as those who are experiencing chronic depression or anxiety), or those in a mental health crisis (such as those struggling with suicidal thoughts, or an active, untreated addiction). It is also not recommended for couples where there has been or currently is partner violence.
What can I expect from coaching?
During our first session, we will spend time exploring your concerns and goals, and formulate a plan for our work together. Coaching sessions are typically 45 minutes, though longer sessions are an option if that feels more appropriate for your unique needs. Coaching for couples involves a longer initial session, and includes an in-depth assessment to help identify your strengths and challenges as a couple.
